  1. Get some Pantene 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner and Pine Sol (you know the cleaner).  Mix 50/50 and make sure its mixed well.  Do a small amount unless you have a bottle to save it in.  Put it on the area and leave about 15 minutes and rinse it out...You may have to do it again in a few weeks.  The skin will look red in that area.

Motor oil is unsafe to use, even on dogs can cause more problems and bigger vet bills.

  2. Yes and No.

    Mange Treatment

    Castor Oil

This mange treatment might be a bit messy, but some say it works like a charm. Pour the castor oil directly on the affected area.

    Garlic Goldenseal

Mix 2 tablespoons of goldenseal powder with 2 tablespoons of garlic powder, and then add 1/4 cup of olive oil. Apply this natural mange treatment by gently massaging it into the skin of the affected area.

if you dont like any of these talk to your vets to get a shampoo maybe or paste to rub on your horse. Goodluck!

  3. there are 6 different types of mange mite.  All  of them are treated differently, some only needed steroids to control the itch while healing happens and others requireing doses of ivermection at 200mg/kg  with is a HIGH doesage.

Call the vet and have him determine exactly which you have, and what should be done given your mares age.  Its safer for her

  4. Is it mange or lice?

  5. Either go to the vet and get something, or try some ivermectin dust, or a pour on type, that they make for cattle.

Motor oil is really bad for them, and doesn't kill all the mange mites.  It'll suffocate the surface ones, but there'll be others deep inside the skin feeding and they'll be fine, and you'll have the problem all over again.

Are you sure it's actually mange, and not lice? If you can actually see the parasites, it's probably lice.  They look like walking dandruff.  They're much more common in horses than mange.

Same treatment either way, though.  Good luck!

  6. I guess you could do what we did to our ranch dogs when they got mange.

We just painted them with a ton of used motor oil and it killed the mites that were eating their skin.

The oil wears off in a few weeks and the hair always came back.

  7. try fung-a-way

  8. used motor oil is the best my quarter horse has mange a few weeks ago and i used motor oil and it was gone in 3 days new motor oil is fine to (i used new motor oil because i didnt have and used )

    hope this helps good luck
