My mare has been really wierd latly because i normally never get any problems out of her. Now i had her tied up to a tree and i was brushing her down and i pulled her halter forward and she reared up and kicked. She`s normally never does this. Have any ideas of what might of caused her to do that?

And I know I didnt hurt her...I was being really carefull.....

  1. Have you checked her bridal path and ears?  She could have a fungus or ear mites.  That may have made her sensitive to having the halter moved forward.

Of course, she could have just been acting like a mare.  They can get a little weird sometimes.

  2. she might have a sore on her head. Might have been picky about where you touch her head. If she does it again or more times, you might want to contact your vet or ask your trainer about it.

    good luck! =)

  3. If it just happened once, its probably a fluke.  Otherwise, it could be hormonal.  I bet you will notice a temperment pattern if you track her cycle.

  4. maby you did too fast for her and she wasn't paying attention but the first thing she did by instinct to run but since she couldn't she reared.  Or it could be just hormonal just track her cycle and you might find something.

  5. If you had been grooming her awhile it it possible she was dozing off. When you pulled on her halter it just snapped her awake and startled her.

If she continues to do it, it could be a issue but just a one time thing I'd just assume that I startled her.

  6. You never know, it could just have been a bee or something.

After all - everyone has their bad days. Just carry on as normal. If the problem persists take her to the vet, she might have something on her poll or something.

At the moment I would reccomend to leave it. See how things go. If you are nervous then you might aswell get the vet round, and then you will know that she is well :)

  7. o yes

  8. Gotta love those mares! If she does it again be concerned, but it may have been something you didn't see.

  9. Maby shes in season.  I have a mare who puts a right strop on on her first day of being in season.  She chills back down and shes back to normal after shes had her strop.  I wouldnt be too worried unless it starts to happen more frequently or somthing.

  10. maybe she was just suprised because she wasn't paying attention and was looking at something else then when you grabbed her halter she snapped back into reality and was spooked    also she could have just been spooked by something else

P.s.  im just eleven hope i helped

  11. maybe a horse fly bit her. or something scared her. like a plastic bag
