  1. I like what Elle said.  Yeah, sometimes my students have perceived me incorrectly or misread the way I behave.  If they tell me, I try my best not to come off that way.  Talking about it with her in private may help.  You can do it kindly such as saying, "Excuse me Ms. ___________, but have I done something wrong? etc.."

Also, some teachers have weird quirks like that.  You might remind her of a student she used to have that she didn't like.  You wouldn't believe some of the ridiculous reasons teachers come up with for not liking students.

Some teachers I work with will say that they don't like a student because he/she talks too softly, doesn't raise his/her hand enough, has an annoying voice, is too hyper-active, laughs too much, asks too many questions, has sloppy handwriting.  The list of petty things that will bother some teachers can go on and on.

If you teacher is like that, there may be nothing you can do except grin and bear it.  I find that killing them with kindness is best.  You can always smile at her, wave to her, and treat her kindly in spite of what she does to you.  Show her you are willing to work for her and ignore the way she treats you.  If she does treat you that way when you have done nothing, she has issues and you shouldn't worry about it.  She doesn't determine who you are and what you're worth.  So don't let her.

I once had a teacher who told me I wouldn't amount to anything and I'd only be an average student.  I proved him wrong when I went to college.  Teachers don't know everything.

  2. as a teacher i had kids tell me before that i treated them differently than others.  i had noooo idea that i had been but appreciated that the student told me.  i then made a conscious effort to be mindful of these things and change.  she might not even realize what she's doing so try talking to her.

  3. Who knows what the story is. We're not there and don't know you or your teacher. And yes, we as teachers do have kids we like more than others. But that doesn't automatically mean we treate them better or play favorites.

In other words, we tend to like the kids who are nice and respectful to us. The ones who do their homeworks and turn them in on-time. Those who participate in class and don't cause trouble.

But this doesn't mean they get special treatment when it comes to our teaching. We can still instruct and treat them exactly the same as we do the kids who are more disruptive and don't do their homeworks. It's simply that we personally like being around the ones who behave themselves and exhibit the kind of behavior we like and encourage.

If you really feel you are being disrespected and treated unfairly, then I suggest you talk to your Principal. But be nice and respectful when you talk to him or her!

One reason why you might be feeling ignored is because your teacher knows you already know this stuff and are good at it. So he or she may be focusing more on those who don't know it as well as you do. In other word, he or she wants to give others the chance to respond.

I personally feel that a good teacher will include all students, good and bad! After all, we're there for the entire class and not one particular student or another. But we also don't want one particular student being the one we always call on or the one who always answers our questions. That's because the learning process involves others participating too. So we may call on someone else instead of you as a way to get others involved in the process. And this can happen even when you raise your hand.
