My microwave has a hole in it. Is this dangerous?

My friend doesn't like being in the same room when the microwave is on because she says the radiation kills her eggs and she wants kids one day. Is this true? Should I be worried?

Do microwaves emit enough radiation to be dangerous to my eggs?

The hole is smaller than a dime and the room is maybe 20 x 10 feet.

  1. That microwave is NOT safe.  Stop using it immediately.  The size of the hole is not important.  Microwave radiation is escaping into your home.

  2. I don't know about your eggs, but microwave radiation, even in small doses is not healthy.  It's destructive to living cells...  If you have a hole in it, you should stop using it immediately and either dispose of it and buy a new one (my recommendation) or try to have it fixed.

I'm not kidding - that is not safe...  :)

    Good luck.

  3. Well s4uw, you are in for quite a surprize. As with most microwaves built before the 1997 Omega-Wave radiation act, it is not designed for human interaction. I suggest you avoid it like the plaugue.

  4. Uhhh....yeah. dumas.

  5. Microwave exposure over a period of time is dangerous, you have to replace it. Theres a reason the sides of it are lead plated and the front has a grille on it.

  6. Not safe at all!

  7. IT IS NOT SAFE. RADIATION DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE SIZE OF HOLE OR ROOM. GET A NEW ONE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!

  8. Microwaves cause cancer?  How?  This i was not aware of.
