Question:

My microworm culture?

It has been six days since my microworm culture came in the mail. It has not been showing any signs of being alive. I put it in a container with a paste of flour and water and a little yeast. Is there anything that I am doing wrong that is causing it to not grow? What should I do about it? Thanks!

  1. The culture should be kept in a well lighted area at room temperature, 68-85°F. Microworms can withstand temperatures below 32°F but greater daily production can be expected at higher temperatures; however, cultures last longer at lower temperatures. The microworms feed on the yeast and bacteria produced from the oatmeal. After 3 to 7 days, the surface of the media will appear to shimmer with the movement of the microworms, and they will start climbing up the sides of the container.

  2. So, how is this a Botany question? That is, if you're hoping for more answers, you might try the Zoology folk in the next room... :)
