  1. Wow, what in idiot.  Depending on your state, I'm sure there are different laws to get a duplicate title are you are best off searching for your DMV website and looking for the procedure there.  

    I needed a duplicate title once because mine was destroyed when my house flooded.  I live in New York State.  I believe it was $40 for a duplicate.  The title will be sent to you in the mail in a few weeks.


  2. You go to your state DMV, and fill out a duplicate title request form, and turn it in with the fee - usually around $50.  Then they'll mail you a new title.  Unless there's a loan on the car, in which case they mail it to the lender.

  3. Generally, the VIN off the car, a drivers license or other photo id to prove you are you, and the money to pay for the duplicate.

  4. Go to the DMV licensing center and tell them who you are and maybe a picture I.D.  and they can get you a new one for a fee (about $20).  They have what you own on file.
