  1. That's very good! Most kids can run the mile in close to 7 minutes! so you're doing really good!

  2. that's okay my middle school distance runners are like this i am number 1 at 5:14. the other eighth graders are 5:20 and 5:30, the seventh graders are 5:40, 5:45, 6:12, 6:23 and then all the way to some of them in the eights, so you will do good and don't get up set if you lose you can get better

  3. That's terrific speedy!

  4. yea thats definately good for a seventh grader keep working on it and you can become really good

  5. i think it's great. congrats! we didn't have track in middle school, so i'm glad to hear younger kids are getting exposed to it now. just think of how much faster you'll get by high school now that you're on a team and can train!

  6. last year in middle school, the track team wasn't really trained, so everybody ran what they ran. In 8th grade i ran around 10 min. miles ..... LOL.  And now in HS (im  a freshman) im running 6.20s... all because of proper training. If you have a good coach, your time will go down without you having to worry. Just remember to work hard.

  7. I'm in seventh grade too. That is about what I run. Best in our school runs a 4:36. So work hard, and believe me, that is a GOOD time.

  8. SEVENTH GRADE?!?! thats So great!!! im a couple years older than you and i have that time. but i started running later though. But seriously thats really good. you are gonna be a great runner in high school

  9. It's not bad at all!! Most people can only do a half mile in about 4 minutes! It's just that people on the track team have been training and exercising for awhile to run alot.

    Plus you're only in 7th grade :)

And the people that get way better times- running might be easier for them naturally. And who knows, in a month or two you might be even better then them!! If not, it doesn't really matter!!

Good luck and have fun!!! :):):)

  10. this is a very good time gest keep running daily and try and do ur best

  11. That's a pretty good time actually. At least it's better than the times that the rest of my classmates do in gym class.Just keep practicing, keep breathing and run on your toes.I hope that you'll get better as the track season goes on.

  12. Yes, your time is good especially for just starting your training.  You will likely drop lots of time with just a few weeks of training.  If you put in the work during track season, you will definitely be able to run mid to low 5's.  Middle school times are hard to judge because kids in middle school mature at different times.  It is impossible to tell your potential.

Back when I was in 7th grade I ran 5:50 for the mile, and there were many kids beating me.  I stuck with the sport, trained a bit more in high school, and got my 5k time down to 16:30 which is able to beat most people in high school.  I now run in college and am running in the mid 15's for 5k.

With good training there is no telling how great you can be.

I would stick with it, don't get discouraged and enjoy the sport.

  13. my god thats

    not good..

    thats great...

you must be some fast kiddos

  14. When I was in seventh grade, I ran a 6:58.  I was probably about 4'10" at the time.  In eighth grade, I bumped up to a 5:56.  In HS, my times were 5:21, 5:12, 5:00.51 (so close!), and 4:48.  I ended up being 5'10" at the end of high school.  So, yeah, 5:53 is great now.  Congratulations!  But never give up the dream of running faster.  See if you can break 5:00 by the end of your sophomore year.  It's a great feat if you can.  Good luck.
