Question:

My mint does not like the sun?

Hi Everyone,

I took a mint clipping from my neighbor a month ago. It has rooted and has new growth. I have it outside on my patio, once the sun hits it the leaves limp over, when I pull it out of the sun they gain their strength again. I keep the soil moist, what's up with that? When will it tolerate the full sun like my neighbor's mint?

  1. Maybe they just too young to be int the full sun. Ithink just wait until they will be stronger  . Until just be carefull with the full sun.  Myn do the same.

  2. i put my mint under the window air conditioner unit outside of our bedroom and it only gets morning and early evening sun.

Mint likes a lot of water so maybe you  need to give it more water or provide it with some shade during the heat of the day until the plant is established.

The best way to do this is propping a window screen up where the sun hits it.

    Good luck.

  3. maybe you should just let it grow big then try it out in the sun again.. it could just be to hot for the little plant on its own?

  4. I grow spearmint and "chocolate" mint.  Some thoughts on your situation, since I couldn't tell from your Question what part of the country you live in:

    1.  If the mint is in a small pot, putting it on a hot patio can cause trauma to the roots.

    2.  Mint can prefer morning sun and afternoon shade.

    3.  Your mint may not be deeply rooted enough to tolerate hot sun.

    4.  Your mint may be too "young" to tolerate hot sun.

You may want to keep your mint in morning sun (not on cement) and light afternoon shade for a while.
