  1. Hah, I have had a very similar problem with my 91 3000gt vr4.  Im sure you probably have alot of miles, id say you want to replace the IAC, idle air controller.  If you are not familiar its located directly under the throttle body.  Its a small electric motor that runs a little pintel that regulates the amount of air that enters your intake manifold when your trottle is closes, aka at idle.  This is especially important you are coasting to stop because you car runs slightly rich when you drop the revs coming out of gear.  Since the IAC is an electric motor they go bad after alot of miles and only work intermittenly which is why it only stalls some of the time.  If you have a datalogger you can read the IAC step count to determine if its out of specification.  Also if you have a multimeter and a service manual you can do a resistance test to see if its functioning properly.  Being that its really difficult to diagose if you havent already replaced it and your car has more then 100k, just break down and buy a new one because its most certainly toast.  Here is a link to the best and cheapest place to get em.  www.dsmisc.com
