My mobile keeps getting yahoo alerts and I never signed up for them. How do I stop it? (cell is a new prepaid)

I just activated a new prepaid mobile phone that receives two yahoo alerts a day, one at 5 am and one at 11 pm. I imagine the previous owner of the number had signed up, but I do not want them. How do I discontinue a service I never signed up for to begin with????
