  2. I can recommend the Suite Condotti hotel on Via Condotti at the bottom of the spansh steps, only 6 rooms , large by roman standards luxurious spa baths very useful after a days sightseeing. It was average priced by Rome standards 150euro a night, very romantic though, they bring you breakfast in bed everyday as there is no restaurant.

I've also stayed at the Intercontinental at the top of the Spanish Steps, another lovely hotel although more expensive, this has more facilities and a lovely restaurant and piano bar.

But I preferred the intimacy of the smaller Suite condotti.

Both hotels were perfectly situated for sight seeing.

My best advice is to buy a streetmap and walk. A must is the Colloseum, Trevi Fountain, St Peters Basilica, and the Parthenon.

There are sights to see around every corner. The PIazza Navona is best visited at night , very lively as is the Campo de Fiore.

Rome can be a cheap place to eat and drink just walk a few yards from the main tourist sights and the prices of food and drink are very reasonable. Eat & drink where the Romans do .

  5. When in Rome.. go to Porta Portese..the biggest flea market in Rome which is really a combination flea market and open air market. You will find great buys on leather goods (got a great handbag for $20.. got to bargain for it though..never pay the asking price!!). There is a very small trattoria there on the main drag; all you see is a white trattoria "pizza" sign I think the name was "il giardino" or something like it but it was the best meal we had in Rome..very very inexpensive (about $7 per person with wine!!)and incredible food. You have to go up a ramp of steps to reach it but once you're there you can eat on the "veranda" with great views of the river and don't miss the desserts they're huge!

Word of caution: when using public transportation do not lose sight of your purse ever!

Silly trick that works wonders..if you want to find really good food at a good price, follow the priests and nuns!

  6. I can suggest the following site for lodging, transfers e tours.

    www.airportconnection.it
