my dad steals my moms money, takes the checks and is able to cash them because of the bank account which has both their names on it. If we go to the bank, could we have my moms name taken off without my dad?

  1. thats tough to say. they could notify your dad of a change in the account if both their names are on it. Of course she could just go to another bank and open a separate account and put her money there, but as far as closing or changing the other one, they may contact your dad

  2. You could go to the bank website and check the FAQs.

If the answer's not there, try the customer service email address.

The laws are different depending on the state (assuming you're in the US).

  3. Close the account and open separate accounts.

  4. I think she can have her name taken off, but she can't close the account unless she is the primary account owner. If it was me i would attempt to remove myself from the account then open one in my name alone. Hope it helps and good luck.
