  1. have your car checked...oil change and all fluids topped off. Plan a route and stick to it. Have preplanned stops to check the car and to rest. And remember if lost, all the highway numbers that are even run east/west and all odd highway numbers run north/south.  ie.  I-45 , I-10...and so on.

good luck and if properly planned it can be real enjoyable.

  2. you just need to not worry about it but check up on them recently by calling, call every cupple hours and see if they are ok and tell them to be very cautious about their driving they need not to speed or else someone could get hurt. but do not think of anything happening to them just think that everything is going to be ok.

I hope this is going to help you out.

best wishes to ur mom and sister

  3. make sure they have a road kit with candy that wont melt in it and  water and a blanket of 2 and the norm  are things and a spare tire and a compass and a CB radio is always nice in case the phone don't work out in nowhere land and extra cash, tires and help are allot of money if there is no-one else around.

i go across every summer and  just stick to the interstate and don't wander to far looking for anything.

Keep a tank as full as you can when you are not sure if the gas station is miles away   there are some long stretches     have fun  take your time too...   :)

  4. Try to stop every two hours or so to get out of the car and strech and make sure you are awake, etc... When I do a big trip by myself I always try to do that.. the highways can get very monotanous.  When I stop I go ahead and get gas... I don't like to get much below a half a tank (definitely not below 1/4) if I don't know for sure what's ahead.

Things to take - snacks, drinks, music (some areas of the country have very limited radio station selections).

I like to listen to audio books... you can rent them from Cracker Barrel or some gas station chains (you actually pay full price at Cracker Barrel and get most of your money back when you return them to another location) but they often contain a warning about the possibility of causing the driver to become drowsy.  I've never had a problem with it but do use caution that you make sure the driver doesn't "zone out".

Maps are always a good thing, as is staying in contact with someone who knows the route your are taking and knows when you are travelling.  (You don't necessarily need to check in for every stop but someone should know where you stop overnight and when you are starting out in the morning... just in case).

Road trips are fun.  If you are moving you also need to plan how to pack stuff... things need to be locked up securely at night or even if you stop for meals.

  5. Get off the turnpikes every time you need to gas up. I just finished a road trip from Philadelphia to Chicago and the gas was ~30 cents/gallon cheaper when you got off the toll roads.

Bring a camera, this country's beautiful.

  6. I think its a great idea and a lot of fun. If you have the time, drive most of the way off of the main interstate highways- that way you will truly see America. I did it a long time ago and it was incredible.

  7. dude   road trip... thats all u need to know, road trip

  8. My family did this. I must say it was the best trip of our lives. And we did this during hurricane  Katrina too!

From California to Georgia! . I would suggest a GPS. That saved us from being stranded in New Mexico.. We were in the middle of no where! But the GPS saved us.

Yeah. you are a little bit nuts, but you can handle it. It will work out fine. Get the cars maintained and pack lots of snacks and drinks. Bring lots of water. Maybe some medicine for car sickness. The weather can change in an instant so be ready for all types of weather. Hopefully you have AAA. They are awesome and can also give you lots of info, hotel deals and maps. And please have a contact who knows your plans.

    Enjoy your trip♥
