  1. If the car is paid for she should have the title. she would have to sign the title to transfer ownership to you. Then you take that title to dept of motor vehicle and transfer the title to your name. But if the car still financed the finance company has the title. And until the notes are paid off there nothing you can do. Unless you and your mom go to the finance company and sign the note over to your name.

  2. You dont need any credit. Is your mom giving it to you? Its already paid for, so theres no payments. You can go to a bank and transfer the title to your name. Your mom needs to be with you . You need the title and registration and e-check papers(i you have e-check).

    They will ask:

make and model, year , color , mileage, condition

Then: you need to go to the liscense bureau and get new plates.

  3. if it is paid off/no loan, just go to the DMV and have her sign it over to you... you'll have to both go, take the title with you, and pay a fee.

if it still has a loan on it, you'll have to get a new loan to pay off the old one before it can be signed over to you.  and even then, it will be in the bank's name until it is paid off.

keep in mind you will need to get your own insurance when the car is in your name, and that will probably be a little expensive.
