My mom was out in the garage trying to light her cigarette and when she struck the match on the side of the box a spark or something flew up and lit the rest of the box of matches on fire and burn her hand really bad. The flame came up around her face, and brunt her hair and eye lashes a little bit, but not her face. Her hand is burnt mainly between her thumb and index finger. She's holding it in cold water now, but I wanna know what else to do.

My dad is working, my sister called him and told him and he's on his way home, but he'll be about an hour and he's the only one besides my mom who can drive.

Any help would be amazing. I'm kind of freaking out right now.

And no comments about she needs to quit smoking. I don't need to read that right now.

  1. Well for now you should keep her hand in some cold water. I assume you're going to take her to the hospital, so on the way to keep it cold soak a tea towel in cold water and tie it gently round her hand.

  2. Ice! But not directly, that can make it worse. put it in a ziplock bag, then in a towel or cloth and then apply it to the burned area. If the area of skin burned is equal or greater to the area of your mothers palm, she needs to go to hospital. And if there is any blisters, DO'NT POP THEM!!

  3. WRAP THE BURN IN CLING FILM NOT CLOTHS OR BANDAGES THEN KEEP AN ICY COLD CLOTH OVER THAT GET IT SEEN TO IT WILL NEED ANTISEPTIC TO STOP INFECTION
