My mom and I live in Calgary, AB while my sister lives in Winnipeg, MB. (Canada - 15 hours apart). My mom is stressing because we already booked a flight on the 20th, but turns out that my sister is giving birth right now! I called air canada and they are letting us get a refund if we pay $25 within 24 hours. WHICH IS GOOD!! But....the earliest flight we can get for the price we can afford is on the 16th at 11 PM! Should my mother just stick with our present flight (20th) or switch to the 16th even though its late night and we'd be 2 days late anyways... but 3 days (because the flight is at 11pm) earlier then our present flight.

P.S the reason why we can only afford this certain price is because we were originally going to long drive to winnipeg, but my dad can't come anymore because of his work.. and you see, my mom can't drive because she is temporarily disabled. Our budget is tight as well because only my dad is working and my mom is getting little from the gov't.

**** this is stressful for my mom as well bc this is her first daughter, having a first child! Also, my sister gave birth WAY earlier then the due date!

  1. It is going to be easier for you all to go when you originally planned. This way, your sister has some time alone with her child, and it might be more comfortable for her now. And when your mom and all you next week, it'll be like you missed a lot, but it'll be over. And in the end, if your sister is mad that your mom wasn't there, it wasn't like your mom could do anything about. Either way, your tickets aren't getting you there ASAP.

  2. You are lucky that you live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Lots of airports there. Many of them have pilot training classes and some of the newer pilots would love to fly that far, if only they had the gas money. On longer trips, an instructor often goes along, thereby making this private trip much safer than a public plane. I won't say whether I've used this idea before or not, but I will say that it only cost a small fraction of what you're already paying. And I'm sure Winninpeg has flight schools, as well. Most people are afraid to try this out, but when you absolutely, positively have to be there overnight...
