Question:

My mom changed my pup's food?

My mom was a bubblehead and bought new foods for my dog while I was on vacation. The lady at the store said (according to my mom) that the brands were the same - meaning you didn't have to switch them gradually. On top of that, the lady gave my mom samples and said "just in case if the other one doesn't work" and my mom fed them to my pup too. Long story short, my pup has very bad diahrea. (I told my mom that you have to gradually change the food, but she'd rather listen to a teenage store clerk...)

What should I feed her so her f***s can harden? I've heard rice and non seasoned, thoroughly cooked beaf, is this correct? And can someone tell me how I should gradually change the foods, like when should I transition from 1/4 cup of the new food and 3/4 cup of the old to 1/2 new 1/2 old?

My dog's old food was eagle pack small and medium puppy, and now her new food is an adult brand of eagle pack hollistic lamb and rice. I also told my mom she needs puppy food, and we're going to get her eagle pack puppy hollistic.

We should join to spread awareness to all dog owners about irresponsible dog food manufacturers that are causing a lot of harm to many dogs without the dog owner’s knowledge!

There hundreds of dog food brands being recalled in 2007 and it still happening today and one of it may be the brand you been feeding your dog. So be informed and educated in dog food is better than not!

    Cheers!

  2. Well you should feed her the brown rice & cooked ground beef until her stomach settles back down.

Then slow introduce her kibble back to her.  doing the 25%  kibble to the rice & ground beef.  Gradually increasing it back to just kibble.

Your poor mom was taken by an uninformed sales clerk.

  3. Well, I am very happy to hear you feed Eagle Pack!  It is one of the best processed foods on the market, and I've had terrific success with it at my local humane society when I worked there.

Any abrupt switch, no matter in bad food or good food, will upset the digestive system of a puppy.  You don't mention the dog's breed or possible breed combo or how old, but if you have a toy-medium sized dog I'd feed puppy food until maybe 8-9 months old.  If you have a large dog, I'd feed puppy food until around a year, and for extra large dogs I'd feed puppy food until little over a year, about 1 year and 2-3 months.

Eagle Pack is terrific - keep it up!  If you're doing a food transition, I'd do 25% new for 3-4 days, 50% new 3-4 days, and 75% new 3-4 days until the transition is complete.

    Good luck!
