My mom doesn't like us anymore?

My mom is turning 56 next week, and she has been acting really bitter. She made dental and doctor appointments for me on her b-day and she is allowing 5 relatives to stay here while on vacation.

She says she doesnt have a life anymore and that she never gets what she wants. It is her fault that she is putting all this on her plate.

Also, I know she means that she hates taking my sister and i everywhere. My sister is about to get her drivers license but my mom never makes an appointment because she claims we "don't have time" but she just doesnt want to bother, even though having my sister drive would take a huge burden off her shoulders.

Is this just really bad menopause or does she really hate her family now?

  1. Your mother sounds stressed beyond beliefe.  Having kids and feeling like your life is no longer in your hands can be a very depressing thing.  Although she may say she never gets what she wants and although your sister driving would help witht he burden, i think your mom might also feel saddened that your growing up.  my mom went through this as well.  Always complaining about her life and having to take us everywhere in the little spare time she had, and yet when i got my license, she would never let me go anywhere because she was sad that me and my sisters were growing up.  Your mom sounds exhausted and over worked.  Maybe a day to her self would cheer her up.  Clean the house completely one day while she is gone and see if her attitude changes, schedule your own driving appointment, jsut ask your mom what day would be good, and take the burned of her having to make the appointment.  If you start doing things for yourself, she may feel less stressed and more like she has her own life as well.

  2. Maybe your mom is feeling unappreciated. I'm 50 years old and I feel that way with my family sometimes. It's very hard to say no and make time for myself. You and your sister should try to do something for your mom some time. Instead of feeling like she hates you try to understand what she's feeling. Mothers are human too and we also have our needs.
