That clicked on one of those pop ups that say you have one a free house and it actually worked! He now has a huge house on the coast. I know this doesn't usually happen, but has this ever happened to anyone, where you actually tried a scam ? I did it once and got a bunch of junk mail for a really long time :(

  1. Well here's the deal with most of those pop-ups. It is really a way to get a lot of spam mail in your email. The first thing they will ask for usually is your name and email address. This is to make sure they fill up your mail box with a lot of junk mail. A lot of the pop-ups will require you to complete offers and will require a valid credit or debit card for you to sign up to a membership for something. This is so that you will forget to cancel whenever the trial membership is over and they will charge your credit/debit card the full monthly price. Here's the concept behind it though. Say for instance, you get a pop up that says: You have won a Sony PSP Playstation (which is normally valued at $450), well after you have completed all the offers that they require, you have now given them the information they need. But if you read the fine print for the item that they claim you have won, you will see that you must be an active member for at least 3 months or so. This is because they know, that if you stay a member for that time period, you will have spent way over $450, for all the membership programs you have signed up to. So actually, you're not really getting it for free. Bottom line is that, it's not so much of a scam, it's just a way to enroll you in a membership that you probably won't ever use, but they will still continue to charge your credit/debit card until you cancel. I have never seen one of the pop ups that said "you have won a free house" (usually they don't sell BIG things like that), but if he did win it, then the question is: How many offers did he have to sign up to in order to get it, and how much money was he out of when it was all over. Bottom line is, I have done it before, but I never go past my trial, because I donot want to be charged all that money for something I know i will probably never use. So my advice....Don't do it. It's not worth it.

  2. I think your mom's "friend" is pulling her leg.

Either that, or he's part of a scam and now he's trying to con her in to it too. I hope that's not the case.

  3. No. Way.

  4. If this is true your moms friend should be a friend and let her in on how he did it so she could do it herself!!!!

Personally, I think he is pulling her leg and every thing attached!!!!
