  1. Check it with your parents as O + B results in O or B offspring usually.


  2. If your mum is group O, then her blood genotype is OO (she inherited the O from both her parents) So she only has an O to pass on to her children.

    If your dad is group B, then he could have the genotype BO (the B from one of his parents and the O from the other parent), so he could pass on either the B or the O to his children. Alternatively, he might have genotype BB (having inherited a B from both his parents) in which case he can only pass on a B to his children.

    So the possibilities for kids having one parent type O and the other type B blood are

    OO (blood group O)

    OB (blood group B)

    your mum can only pass on an O and your dad could either pass on an O or a B.

    It isn't possible for a group O mother and a group B father to produce a child with blood group A.

    It is possible for Rh+ parents to have Rh- children. If both parents have one + and one - Rhesus gene then they will be Rh+ themselves, but if they both happen to pass on their Rh- then the kids will be Rh-

    EDIT - just wanted to add - don't go jumping in assuming that your dad is not your dad! Check the facts again very carefully first! Because if your dad is blood group AB (not B) then he could have passed on the A to you.

  3. Are you absolutely sure about your blood type and your parents' blood types?

    Each parent has 2 copies of the gene - one from each of their parents.  In this case, your mom has 2 'O' genes, an Rh+, and an Rh- (the positive one is dominant, which is why your mom is Rh+ while your brother and sister are Rh-).

    Your dad could either have 2 'B' genes or a 'B' and an 'O', and also has an Rh+ and an Rh-.

    'A' and 'B' are co-dominant.  Someone can have 'AB' blood type, but if their type is 'BO', it shows up as just being 'B'.  A person would have to have a DNA test to see whether they would have a 'BB' or 'BO' genotype.

  4. Just to add to what the other poster's said.

    Double-check to make sure your dad is not AB.

    That being said, there are some rare occurances where there has been offspring with different blood types than their parents (even with the recessive genes) - the children were tested and are def. their parent's children;  occasionally there are genetic mutations within a gene as it is passed from parent to child - that is the explanation for the blood type
