My mom is a compulsive gambler, please help? ?

On vacation, she loves going to the casino's.

Lately however, she's been watching more gambling shows on tv, and gambling on the internet too, and this year on vacation, she couldn't even be dragged out of the casino.

Now, she's even going to the casino in our hometown.

Please, any suggestions? My dad gets really angry with this, and my family can't deal with this.

I may be her daughter, but I am an older teenager, so I understand the implications of involving myself, i simply ask for your advice

  1. It is difficult for a young teenager and it is difficult for her, I really think you should contact that number the previous writer gave. They are professional and they will be able to give the best advise. Good luck to you and your family.

  2. Try to seek help from Gamblers Anonymous.  See if your local casino has any information on associations that help problem gamblers. Call Citizens Advice Bureau or look in your Yellow Pages for help from these organisations.

Talk to your father and agree that you will try to convince her to withdraw from her addiction by joining a rehabilitation center because otherwise her actions will destroy her family.

One thing  you can do that is easier then the first is to convince your father to stop giving her money if he has not already and to hide any savings you may have to a more safer place.

  5. Unless your mother admits to being a problem gambler and is willing to seek help, little can be done to change her. Gambling addiction is the same as any other addiction, she  must want to stop if she is to succeed. The only alternative is to have a family intervention where the members tell her what her gambling is doing to tear the family apart. Every casino and gambling spot has a toll free number to call if someone has a gambling problem, you might start there. If money is not a problem then perhaps it is a pastime, but if mom is using household money and depriving the family, it`s time to seek whatever help you can get for her.

  6. Gambling addiction can ruin families... I know from experience. She needs counselling ASAP. Even a rehab if necessary (my step dad is in rehab at the moment its the only thing that helping)
