my mom is in her early 40s, she drinks atleast 6 beers a night, and sometimes it is mixed with a few shots here and there, she gets really mean when she drinks, i have tried to tell her whats going to happen if she keeps drinking every night, but she gets mad when some one tells her she has a problem, even on a good day she will drink alot, she said its because of stress, but on a stress free day she drinks just as much, if not more. Yesterday she drank about 30 beers over the course of the day, she was horrible, i cant stand living with an alcoholic anymore, but she said that she doesnt have a problem, what should i do?

  1. there is help available.  Go to alateen on the web and find a meeting in your area. They will help.

  2. enforce her to go to A.A group.

they did that to my dad

  3. Go to Alateen.

  4. http://www.rational.org/

Study this site yourself and then see if you can get your mom to look at it.

Speaking from experience (I had an alcohol problem and I am a mom):

    1.  All the nagging in the world will not do any good.

    2.  The only person who can get your mom to stop drinking is your mom.

    3.  She will not stop until she is ready.

    4.  She will not be ready until enough negative consequences have come her way.

    5.  YOU and your family have to be strong and give her the zero tolerance ultimatum and STICK TO IT.  No nagging, just let her know, plain and simple what will happen if she drinks again and then DO IT.

The site explains what I'm talking about.

You might be surprised, she may like the site.  I have known that I had an alcohol problem for a long time, but I felt helpless and doomed because I hated AA and their whole concept.

When I discovered Rational Recovery, I was so excited!  I know that I will never drink again and I don't have to go to stupid meetings for the rest of my life!!  Yippee!!

Good luck!  I soooo hope this helps!!

  5. AA has programs for families of alcoholics - to help them deal with the problems.  I think there's an AA-Teen program.  Call a local chapter and ask them.....
