First of all, i have researched hamsters and know how to take care of them and have even been looking at cages, toys, food, and bedding. I am very responsible so i would take care of it and clean its cage every week. I also have the money to buy him and continue to care for him ((food, bedding, vet....)) I haven't gotten up the nerve to ask my mom yet because i know that she'll say "No. Its a rodent." What could i say to her to explain to her that rodents aren't bad?

  1. you can tell her that you either want a Snake and then really gross her out with how gross snakes are(Cue gross snake picture.) . and then say Or we can get a cute hamster.(Show a cute hamster picture to her) instead.

Or if she is really against rodents i dont know maybe you have to wait till you move out to get one.

  2. Present the information to her in a professional, responsible manner.  Show her what you've learned about hamsters, and perhaps outline the costs of things like bedding, food, and veterinary care and show her an "action plan" -- as in "This is how I intend to pay for this, this is the schedule of cleaning and care that I will follow, etc".  Perhaps include how you can help her out around the house to continue to show her how responsible you are.

Always keep in mind, if she says no, that's her decision, and you must respect her home.  You may just have to wait until you live in your own place to get a pet.

  3. there are many newer kinds of cages that make it impossible for the hamster to get out. tell ur mom that u will do everything to do with taking care of the hamster. how old are u? can u get a job, (paper route etc??) to pay for it yourself? if u save up for it, and continue to buy its food and stuff urself. ur mom will probably let u....maybe make up a contract if u dont take care of it, (CLEAN THE CAGE EVERY 4 DAYS) she can sell it....(from a moms point of view)

  4. Tell her all you just said. And next time you're in the pet store ask someone if you can hold a hamster and then show your mom how sweet it is and hopefully she'll start to like them. (Thats exactly what i did and I got a hamster because my mom thought it was so cute also it might help if you where a jacket with pockets so the hamster will want to crawl into it thats what really made my mom like hamsters because the hamster fell asleep in my pocket)

  5. Well my science teacher had animals and she is allergic to rodents and all so she uses a fish tank instead of a real hamster cage but uses the actual lid so if yuo really wanna be careful put books or a textbook over the top and it'll work hope this helps ... Good luck

  6. if your low on chores and shes nagging you say ill be happy and when I'm happy ill do my chores.

if she wants you to keep your room clean just say I'm gonna keep my room clean i don't want the hamster to die then you both get what you want

  7. get all the info you need food beding and that print it off get the it all set up the cage and get the hamster then tell her about it a show her the info!

  8. ask your mom in a nice way, what is a rodent? she'll say something along the lines of hideuos creatures. tell her they are classified by ever growing teeth, whats so bad about that? say you'd like a friend that you can cuddle.

  9. Just buy it - it's harder to tell you to get rid of it, then it is to say "No"

  10. okay I'm not much of a hamster person more of a rat, but rodents are awesome tell her you will take care of him/her and she won't even need to look at it, but i had the same problem my dad hates rodent and mostly rats in his mind the word rat is just another why to say snake food, so i said i really wanted one well two with some begging, and i researched everything, so like you i well i already had a nerve i asked and asked either he changed his mind or got sick of me because i got two baby rats for X-mas, and you tell her you read all about them you will pay and keep them clean and out of her way.

Or you could always use plan B i wanted a cat and they said no so i went to the local pet store and bought one without them knowing it only lasted a week until they found out, but i still have the cat.

I do not encourage plan B that got me in a lot of trouble :-)

  11. Well i have never had that problem before but you should try showing her all the research you have done and maybe write a paper about the responsibility of owning this animal and how you take care of it the costs of it's living etc. Then show her that you have the money to pay for it and tell her that it will stay in your room and she would not have to be near it.

  12. I have a hamster and he really doesn't stink or anything. I don't know the reasons your mom doesn't like them but if you keep up with cleaning his cage he won't stink. Although, they are quite noisy at night when they're running on their wheel. (you can get silent wheels) They aren't a lot of work, you just need to refill their water and food and love them really :-) He did escape my hands once and was pretty hard to catch. But all together they are really easy to care for. Explain to her that you are responsible and would take good care of him and that in all they are not hard to care for.

  13. Tell her that just because she doesn't likehamsters doesn't mean you don't, tell her that hamsters aren't Dirty" like rats, and mice, they are friendly and nice. :)  Although, you want a hamster, im sorry to say that they have VERY short life spans, and catch cold very easy.  even though all the books say that hamsters live 2 or more years, it isn't true. i took really good care of my hamster......i didn't dare to even give them tap water!!!!!  They only live a max. of 1 and a half years.

And it took FOREVER to get over all 3 of mine!!!!  I would reccomend a Dwarf Bunnny instead, plus u can leave them outside in a cage, :) plus they live 8-13 years!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck finding a pet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  14. Your mum may not like rodents, but if you just got a hamster, she would not let you get rid of a cut small living thing when it has a good home at your house :). I just got my Guinea Pigs and my mam eventually grew to liek them :). Good luck, let me know how things go, x

  15. Tell her all that. I don't like to call hamsters "rodents" because they aren't gross like rats or other rodents. They are small and cute!!! Slowly bring her into the idea, talk about it each night and tell her all that you wrote.

    Good Luck!

  16. turn ur mom into a hamster and take her as ur pet!

naw just playing don't do that

the best thing to do is to convince ur mom that a hamster is not a bad rodent better yet don't even use the word rodent it will just throw her off!

tell her that it will be locked up so she won't even know its in the house

and to add on show her how a hamster really acts show her how "cute" they really are and so on

finnaly and most of proove to her that she won't have to do any work or spend any money because of that pet and that u will have full responsibility of the hamster

    that's all!

  17. just say u would "Get 'er Done"

if she protests talk to your dad :D

  18. I used to have two hamsters.  They were actually really friend and never caused problems.  They are also fairly easy to take care of you.  You said you are responsible, so you shouldn't have a problem with them.  Why doesn't your mom like rodents?  Does she just think they are all icky and scary?  If that's the case I don't know how to convince her.  They don't cause problems like rats do.  Just show her some pictures of how cute hamsters are.

One problem with hamsters though is that they are escape artists.  We went through like 3 cages for each hamster.  They can chew their way through ANYTHING, and they kept breaking out of their cages.  Make sure you get a sturdy cage, and you should be good to go.  Hope this helps.  Good luck!
