My mom is considering getting me a chinchilla, anything I should know about them?

Question

My friend has one and he said you have to let it run around your room every day for an hour, but that's about all I know about them.

So, before I decide to keep a chinchilla in my room, should I know anything else about taking care of them? Any good sites with information on how to take care of them?

They don't live very long and they really stink if you don't keep up with them. You should get sugar gliders instead!!!!  They can fly around your room and are waaaay cuter than a silly old chinchilla.  ^.^

theres alot to kno i was going to get one a week ago but i researched them alot and decided i was gonna get a rabbit since i already know alot of things aboujt cuz i already owned one...but chinchillas take dust bath...weird but cool...and they are nocturnal...this prob didnt help alot but a little is better than nothing

well lets just start with chinchillas make great pets. with that being said though they dont make good pets for small children.they are very fun to watch and are curious by nature.i have eight of them and i never tire of there antics.they really arnt cuddley creatures but with time they will be all over you. mine rides on my shoulder while i vacum.they do need stimulation everyday with plenty of space to jump around.i put mine in the bathroom(toilet seat down!!!!)so that they can get their dust bath and excersise with out any of the chewing cord issues(also makes clean up easy).hope that you get one because you will love them

lol, i don't have anything constructive. but they are SOOO cute.. and they take dust baths daily. you can get a thing for them at pets plus that they 'bathe' in. it's so cute
