Can you give me so advice? Like boarding or somthing?

My aunt owns a horse farm but it is farm away but there is a boarding stable one mile away from my house. I could walk there. If I keep it at home, I have no fencing and I have a old barn that hasn't been used in years. It is old and only used by chickens. Help. Also would like some nice horse tips.

  1. Boarding is usually an average of $400 a month, but if you can keep it at your house that would be good. You would definitely need to put good fencing, and fix your barn up. I also suggest a companion for your horse. Horses are herd animals, and get lonely, so make sure you have a pal for him, like a mini or something. He'll need a nice pasture for grazing. And you can prepare yourself by getting like tack, and grooming stuff. Also, a halter, lead, feed bucket, water buckets, and stuff like that. Do not buy lots of feed ahead of time, like the first person suggested. Especially in the summer, it can go rotten quickly, worry about the feed right before you get your horse, but you can plan what feed you'll be getting. Plan about hay, and wormer, and vaccines and stuff too, keeping your horse on your own property will be tough, but it is amaing. One day I hope I can keep my horse on my own property, well good luck, and I hope I helped!

  2. Not to be mean because I know how exciting getting a horse can be but ask yourself

A.Do you think you are truly ready?

B.Can you afford to take care of him/her is something happens?

C.So you have knowledge needed to take care of it

Once again im definatly not trying to be mean/rude and If I come off that way sorry..but horses are a huge responsibilty

  3. Sounds like you need to get the horse before mom changes her mind!  I would start out boarding the horse down the road.  You will get an idea of what the horse needs, and can try to accommodate that at home later if you want to.  Congratulations....and welcome to my world.

  4. good for you....don't keep a horse where there are a lot of birds, chickens, pigeons etc. they will give the horse cocidiosis

  5. Wow. Sudden, don't you think maybe?

Here are some tips though I hope I can help you.

    - Spend time fixing up that old barn

    - Buy some fencing

    - Buy lots of feed before getting the horse

    -Buy a grooming kit

    - Buy tack

    - Buy lead ropes

    - Fly spray, fly spray, fly spray!

    - Spend time reading books on horse care

    - Volunteer to spend time with the horses a mile away so you can be prepared to soothe your horse

    - Decide on a calm breed

    - Pick up on horseback lessons (Whatever style you wanna do, if you havent already)

    HOPE I HELPED!
