She's going with family, so it's not completely scary, but are there chances of hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico area any time soon? Also should she bring a small safe/lock box, or rent out a safe on the boat for valuables (i.e. birthcertificates, I.D.s, cash, etc.)?

  1. I would hope so. If the Cruise line thought it was unsafe they would cancel. They are not going to risk a billion dollar law suit.

  2. they would cancel the cruise if they thought it was dangerous. all the cruises i have been on have safes in the rooms. you might wanna tell her how to use those first though. they are actually really complicated.

  3. I've been on cruises where the captain determines to change ports or even itineraries. They have state of the art weather equipment and are in contact with their corporate offices. They do not want to put their passengers or their multi-million dollar ships in harm's way.

The ships provide safe places for valuables. There is a vault just like in the better hotels.

  4. yes, I promise.

J/k.  Who the heck knows.  Call the cruise line.

The cruise I went on provided a safe.  Bringing your own safe doesn't make any sense because then the crooks can take it back to their lair and take their time cracking it.

  5. Cruises are completely safe.  No need to worry.  If there is any chance of a hurricane, they will reroute the ship in a different direction.

Tell her there are safes in every cabin - no need to bring your own.

  6. The difference between a cruise ship and a land based hotel is the cruise ship can move.  If a hurricane is headed toward the cruise ship, it will simply move to somewhere else.  So, yes, being on a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico during hurricane season is safe.

She does not need to rent a safe.  All the modern cruise ships have safes in the room.  If she is on an older cruise ship, she can ask the purser to store her valuables.

  7. I can only speak for Carnival but I went on a five day cruise and felt very safe. Do not worry about the weather the cruise ships avoid storms. Each room has a safe and you can give it your own number when you arrive in your room. there id no charge. We kept our jewelry  money and passports in there and everything was fine.

  8. This time of the year is bad for cruising that is why the prices are so cheap this time of the year. And yes its a good idea to rent a safe box just incase. I wish I was going with her tho! LOL tell her have fun!

  9. I just got back from a 7 day in the gulf.  She will be fine.  The ships steer clear of the storms.
