I moved to Ga. 4 yrs ago and my mother stayed in N.Y.C.. We had a falling out and lost communication. I recently found out she is in a shelter somewhere. I have called a few shelters looking for her but eveyone i speak to is rude and won't assist me in any way. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. It depends on what kind of shelter it is. If it's an abuse shelter they cant tell you. Hire a private detective, they should be able to track her down.

    Goodluck

  2. Salvation Army go and talk to them they deal with these sort of things and they have great advice and resources. Good Luck

  3. I know this seems like an odd situation but women's shelters have to respect there clients confidentiality. So they can't tell you if your mother was there or not, but what they can do is take a message for someone that "may" be there. Usually you can read between the lines, also it might benefit you if you asked for the supervisor since they have more sway in bending the rules.....Also file a missing persons report....I know where I work we have to do a police check to see if the person has any warrants, probation, or MPR's on them before we can let them stay....although I work at a young mens shelter in Canada so it might be different........but if I were you I would just call all the womens shelters in NYC that you can find (I know there are alot) and tell them that you would like to leave your mother a message.

  4. Don't take it personally, New Yorkers pride themselves on their rudeness.  You only have one mother so keep looking.  Contact them again and make sure you leave a way for her to contact you.  If you can, going in person might help your cause.  Best of luck and Godspeed.
