Question:

My mom is ruining the days that I have my period...?

I'm not allowed to use tampons because my mom thinks it's not normal for a 13 year old to use tampons, and she thinks it's bad for me to be sticking things up there. Pads are really uncomfortable and they're all lumpy. I'm not allowed to eat ice cream, cold drinks, cold water, or anything cold. Everything I eat has to be warm because my mom thinks that it's gonna make me get horrible cramps or something. It's summer and it really stinks to be drinking warm water on a 30 degree day. I'm also not allowed to take baths, only showers because my mom thinks I'm going to get "infected". I personally like to relax in a bath at the end of thee day. I'm also only allowed to sit down or lie down all day and keep movement at a minimum because she thinks it's bad somehow. It really sucks how I have to stay still all day for no reason instead of hanging out with my friends. I thinks she's being ridiculous, and whenever I tell her those are just old wives tales and stuff, she refuses to believe me. Does anyone know how I can convince me to have a normal life when I'm on my period?

  1. Its really hard to convince mom's. they think they know everything, but ask if you could have one day to disprove all those. and I know girls younger than 13 that use tampons because they are competitive swimmers.

  2. I heard once that eating cold thins during the period helps to get your v****a bigger

also sitting alot in the W/C(tiolet)... make it worse

Just listen to your mom she knows better..

  3. i guess you might just have to endure it now.....

but next time don't tell her you have it.....

don't take baths, though, cause it could get infected.....

if it's really restricted, then you should talk to your mom

  4. tell her you've already stuck a cucumber up there so a tampon is really nothing.... just to see her reaction, then tell her just kidding. You need to like FREAK HER OUT SEVERELY so she will be more normal with the normal stuff, and not freak out on the little things

  5. I think the idea that you cant move is silly.... its the best thing to do excercise during your periodit helps relieve sluggish and it can even help relieve your cramps. I love having baths too and ive been having baths on my period for 8 years and my mum has all her life before me and we've never got infections. You should just tell her that its your body and you want to try things out for yourself.... if u do get an infection it wont kill you but u will have learnt (but i dont think u will get one). You should eat or drink what your body is telling u to eat because its very clever and if your lacking something eg. sugar due to loosing blood during your period your body will crave it. Just give them a try and say to your mum you undertand what she's said but u want to see for your self,

    Gud luck!

  6. Gosh that sucks..

warm drinks are supposed to help with cramps...

i think showers would be less infecting because you aren't sitting in your dirt/filth that you wash off...

There is NO reason to stay still all day! The more moving around/exercising the less your cramps hurt!

Tell her to google it..if you have google in australia...it'll help alot!

  7. First of all, your mother seems VERY over protective. I can see the both of you on Dr. Phil very soon if she doesn't change her raising skills. I have never heard such things.  Tampons are so much more comfortable then pads, cleaner too!  I would seek a doctors help or a close family member.  Worse case senario, go buy some and hide them in your room.  It's not like once you start using tampons you are considered sexually active. So not true.  I would seek family opinions.

  8. You are certainly correct!  You should be able to have a normal life.  These things are wives tales.  You don't have to drink only warm things.  A heating pad can help when you have cramps, but strictly drinking warm things is unneccessary. Also, many experts support the idea of exercise while you have your period.  Exercise increases endorphins, which are the body's natural pain killers.  As far as tampons go, it is really personal choice as to which you find more comfortable.  And, you will not get an infection from being in the bath tub.  Your period is your body's way of flushing things out, so any infection would have to swim upstream so to speak.  Good luck.  If I were you I would google some info from medical sites to show your mom.  If she sees it come from a doctor she may be more likely to believe it :)

  9. get tampons your self and use them and then tell her
