My mom is starting a new Infusion, I would like some info?

the infusion is called tysabri, she has to get it monthly, It is for her multiple sclerosis, does anyone know anything about this?

  1. Yes. Its a monoclonal antibody specific to a receptor on white blood cells. What it does is it sticks to this receptor on the white celss and it stops the cells entering into the spinal fluid and causing damage to the brain and spinal chord. It is meant to be very efficacious in MS. Initially it was withdrawn during clinical trials due to the death of several MS test subjects also taking the MS drug Galantimer. However, the developers, Elan had courage and they considered the possibility that the combination of both drugs had caused the deaths and they pressed forward with single agent trials of tysabri alone and found no further deaths occured and the FDA approved the drug in 2004. Its not a cure but science is rapidly coming to that stage although dabbling with the immune system is not without its unforseeable problems either
