will anything happen? should we alert any credit companies? we dont have much money anyways, and every time she applies for credit cards she gets rejected. so now im wondering, if someone else has the number, would they be able to apply for credit with her SSN even though we werent able to? i think its unlikely that anyone would pick up that paper off the streets anyways, but do you think we should do anything?

  1. I don't know who you would contact, but it might be a good idea to keep an eye on her credit reports for the next few months, just in case someone does try to use her name and social for something. All of our info is floating around out there somewhere. If the bad guys want it, they will get it, one way or another..........

  2. Go to this link to obtain a missing Social Security card:

Your mom might also contact the banks that issued her credit cards and ask them to monitor her cards carefully and report any suspicious activity.  It would probably be also helpful to perform a credit check.  Try these credit reporting bureaus:

http://www.FreeCreditReport.com  -- as advertised on television

http://www.TrueCredit.com   -- $15, but issues reports from three bureaus.

  3. You're right,. it is quite unlikely that anything will happen, however I would monitor my credit cards very carefully for the next few weeks.

*Smile.. yes it is the wrong category but mistakes happen.

    Have a great day.
