  1. Try antique shops... or as previously suggested, group them into lots and sell them on EBay.  There's collectors out there who would be willing to buy them! If you start the bidding out low, there's good chances some lots could go for a lot of money depending on what is in them.

I don't think you're bad for not wishing to hang onto them... I see it as you simply want them to go to people who will appreciate them the way your grandmother did, you want them to go to people who WILL display them and not store them away like you and your mother have.

  2. personally, i dont think  you should sell them yet. They may be rare and they are a special memory of you mom. DONT SELL THEM.

  3. eBay would be my first choice, but it could be a lot of work.

  4. why would u wanna sell it?

    theyre from your mom!

you need to keep the memory!!

  5. Just so you know, there *are* people who buy stuff like that. ;)

I buy postcards at antique or vintage shops or on eBay (almost always those with a person or persons as the subject) for art/craft purposes. 5K would be a LOT to list individually, but my guess is you would make much more that way.

Another option is to group them my themes or subjects to maybe a few hundred per lot and sell them that way.

Yet another option is to use one of the services available like http://www.i-soldit.com/index.asp and have them do the dirty work for you. They'll take a chunk of the profit, but since you don't have any $$ invested in it, that's not as much of an issue.

Before you do anything, though, I suggest you do your research at eBay by doing an advanced search on "Completed Listings Only" to get an idea of what's out there and what it's going for, what's in demand, and what's not.

As far as the fact that these were your mother's, I can't say I blame you for not wanting to hold onto 5K postcards and have them gathering dust and taking up space for no reason. You can still take some of them that are symbolic of her in some way and display them in a collage or multi-pic frame, or even in a photo album. That way you have the gist of it and a nice remembrance of her without the additional pointless stress. I can't see that my mom would be upset if I didn't hang onto something that didn't interest me personally. And it's silly to throw it away. (Now THAT might make her crazy! LOL!)

Besides, most collectors know that they are a little on the crazy side when it comes to their "acquisitions." ;) I know this by personal experience! LOL!

  6. There are a lot of people that collect postcards.

There are some sites that you can get a lot of info and there are published price guides.

Here is a couple of sites to start looking:

    http://www.postcardshopping.com/

    Good Luck!

  7. wow...why sell them greedy *** its something your mom enjoyed and spent time doing....have some respect for her stuff even though she's gone...you can save them and look at them or show them to your children and their children....jeez where can i sell them...where can someone sell you
