  1. I would do The Ben Franklin method...

    (Pros / Cons)

I would rather go school with kids so I wouldn't be cooped up inside all day and I could socialize.

Just think of things like that :)

  2. Might I suggest the happy dance?

  3. What kind of "homeschooling thing"?   Online? Correspondence?  Complete self taught curriculum?

    Find out and do research.

What is your style of learning?  Do you learn best with lectures, reading, or doing?   Will the "homeschooling thing" be at your own pace where you can speed through the things that are easy for you and take your time with more difficult subjects?

What are your goals?  What are your interests?

Do a complete study of homeschooling and make a plan.

Present the results to your mom.

I'm not being ugly when I say this, but if this sounds like more trouble than you want to go through, then homeschooling will not work for you.    You will need someone to oversee you and if your mom cannot do that , for whatever reason, then you will need a public school teacher in a classroom to put external pressure on you to learn.

Socialization is not an issue in today's society unless you are in some remote area of the country where there are not any people.    Limiting our social life to make time for educational and family responsibilities has been our challenge.

  4. i'm confused!

  5. OK, I'm a little confused... You DO have an illness and it isn't just an excuse? I don't mean to offend but the meaning of your post isn't very clear to me.

What grade will you be in??? That is very important...

Before high school... Home school is AWSOME... However, high school is more then just book learning... It is about learning how to survive in the real world...

If you have an illness then by all means... Home School!!

When my hip condition was diagnosed I was home schooled for half of my 7th grade and 98% of my 8th since I had multiple surgeries.

Luckily, I was healthy enough to go to high school without many restrictions.

The way it was for me... The school gave me the text books and they sent a volunteer teacher to my house once a week (or every 2, I don't remember) just to make sure I was actually doing the work.

She would stay for about an hour to 2 and take my work with to be graded.

Since I was at home, I had access to the computer and to Discovery Channel so I ended up correcting some of the text books after reading up on the latest discoveries in archeology and biology! LOL!

I had a friend in High School that had mental issues, Anxiety and a couple other really bad issues, that made going to school and being in such a large group of people VERY hard to deal with. She was allowed to come to a class or two to make sure that she had social interaction but a majority of her schooling was done at home to accommodate her mental conditions.

She graduated with us just like she was with us full time.

If POSSIBLE, please try to get SOME social interaction even while your being home schooled. Join a school club, a team, go to the dances if you are feeling up to it!

I’m sure if you sat down with the school and explained the situation, they would be accommodating… Especially since if they don’t… They can be sued under the American’s With Disabilities Act for not ‘reasonably accommodating’ your needs.

Good luck honey, I hope your illness is something that will get better!!!
