  1. My mom didn't want me to be either, but we worked out a compromise: I cooked my own vegetarian dinner, and she cooked the regular one for the family.  Maybe your Mom would go for that solution--as long as it doesn't make more work for her (although she might still nag...)

  2. I am not a vegetarian but if I was old enough to have kids and one of my kids wanted to become vegetarian or vegan, I would let them and support them.

Next time she forces you to eat meat, throw up on her. That'll teach her.

    :)

  3. I had the same problem. My mom always tried slipping some meat into any dinners or meals.

So I simply went and lived with a cousin..left a note on the fridge saying I was sick of her c**p and left.

She called about a week later and "apologized"

    About...4 years ago. ><

I don't trust my mom at all so I simply go out and buy my own food and cook all my meals.

Is it because of financial issues?

It is sorta expensive. But defiantly a health benefit if you eat right.

If you're old enough, try getting a job..so you can support yourself.

Try sitting down and talking to her.

I know I shouldn't be saying that, because all me and my mom do is yell at each other, but still.

Try explaining WHY you don't want to eat meat.

Tell her she's being a hypocrite, she doesn't like nuts, but you're not forcing her to eat them.

But...say it in a nice way..don't want to p**s her off

    XD

    GOOD LUCK! <3

  4. show her this video called "Earthlings"

I'm sure she will let you be a vegitarian after that.

    see link below

  5. I'm a vegetarian too. I just told my mom that I didn't believe in killing animals for food. Just tell her your reasons and she'll listen.

  6. i use to have this same probleam. My mom  never excepted that i dont eat meat. When she would cook she would put meat in it no matter what it was. I stoped eating her food and said enough was enough. She has finally has stared to let me cook my own dinner and stared buying me snacks i can eat. Just keep pushing it.

  7. Maybe you need to firmly explain to her that going vegetarian is important to you and you're not going to eat meat anymore. Ask her what concerns she has about vegetarianism and try to address them. If she's worried about nutrition, print out some sites about vegetarian nutrition. If she's worried it will inconvenience her, offer to help with meal planning and cooking. Just don't take "no" for an answer. Also, tell her that eating meat makes you feel sick and it's not just about animal rights.

Good veg sources of protein, iron, and calcium:

Keep in mind she can't physically force meat down your throat... be strong and insist that you're not eating meat anymore. Good luck!

  8. How are you approaching her with this? She may just be uninformed to be honest. You should go with her to a health food shop and speak to someone who works there who is a vegetarian and let them show the both of you healthy vegetarian options.

She is just concerned for your well being and may think that you will not get all the nutrition that you need if you are a vegetarian. But the more info you gather to support your beliefs and dietary wishes, your mom will understand and more than likely work with you.

Just try talking to her one on one, like an informed adult.

    Best of luck!!

  9. Hey Criss

I had the same problem so I know how you feel.

I think your mom is just worried about your health, Try showing her that you can stay healthy by eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and others. If eating meat makes you sick, then dont eat it. Show her some articles or websites that will show how being a vegetarian is good. If she still doesnt agree on you being a vegetarian, then I would go and be one anyway. Tell her its something you really want and you are really sure of. Maybe you can even go to your doctor and he/she will discuss it with your mom.

I wish you the best of luck :)

  10. just refuse to eat it when she tries to make you eat it. she can't like hold you down and put it in your mouth.

  11. you just have to explain to your mum about the nutrients in meat that are available in veggies, dairy foods, nuts, beans and legumes..eat moderate portions of these foods in your daily diet, exercise reguarly and prove to your mum that abstaining meat is the best thing to do on earth...

  12. I am a vegetarian and i just won't eat it no matter what. They can't force you, and eventually you'll mom will get the point.

  13. Just refuse to eat what's on your plate.   She can't hold you down and stuff ham into your mouth, can you?  :-)

You can do pretty well on just the veg, fruits, and starch already in most dishes.    Take a multi-vit if you're concerned about nutrition.

When you go out to eat, most restaurants do have meat-free choices.     If you're desperate there's always salad or cooked-veg platter, but most places do have veg burgers, pasta, or other choices.

I'd also get her some short books or handouts on vegetarianism.   If she realizes this isn't a "phase", she'll respect your choices.

    (BTW, good for you!)

  14. I had the same problem for a while! But then, to convince her, I made a list of reasons I should be a vegetarian. That totally made her let me switch!

Here are a few of the items on the list that I remember:

    1. Usually cheaper.

    2. Doesn't abuse animals (show pics off internet of dying animals getting beaten, abused animals, etc.)

    3. It makes me unique.

    4. As you explained to us, meat would make me throw up. That's really unhealthy and bad for my body. And isn't yoru mom trying to make you healthy by being a meat-eater? well, that defeats the point, right?

    5. Studies show that vegetarians live longer. (REALLY!)

    6. Vegetarianism is extremely healthy for the body.

    7. It reduces global warming. (Because billions of cows are raised in the world just to be eaten, and as they are being raised they produce flatulence, and that is one of the many factors that cause global warming... cow flatulence...)

And, as a newcoming vegetarian, I suggest "vegetarian times".

  15. Just dont eat it; thats what I did, she got the point/

  16. I have never been fond of meat my whole life myself. I think you have a very mature attitude about this. I suggest research how to eat a healthy vegetarian diet. Show your mom this can be done. If she doesn't care, you could try not eating it at all. She might get the point. However, if she doesn't supply your diet with the right nutrients, you can be hurting youself. If this is the case, I suggest waiting till you are out of the house before you adopt a complete vegetarian life style.

I wish you the best of luck.
