My mother's face is swollen near her ear with no other symptoms at all- any ideas on what this could be?

My mom is 60 years old and in good health with no pre-exisiting medical issues. This morning she woke up with fairly significant swelling on the right side of her face near her ear. It is not painful or discolored and there is no sign of a scratch, bite, or any other wound. She has not done anything that would cause injury to her face. She has no known allergies, and is experiencing no other symptoms (no pain, no dizziness, no difficulty breathing, etc). She is going to the doctor on Monday if it does not go away, but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what this could be?

Thank you.

  1. It could be lymph node or some type of infection in a tooth.

  2. Something with the joint that connects her jaw to her face? Swollen lymph node maybe?
