Question:

My mother got pulled over in my car that had an expired license plate tab...?

...I had forgotten to renew it, it was about a month overdue.

Here is my question:

I had been driving it for weeks that way, and had not been pulled over. (I work next door to the State Police station and see cops constantly.)

So I am wondering - do cops often pull people over if they notice that the license tab is the wrong color?

Or was my mother probably doing something else - speeding, etc... to get pulled over. (She says she wasn't - but that is why I am asking. If this is something it is common to get pulled over and ticketed for without some other inciting incident - than no problem. But I think she was probably speeding. As she usually is ;)

Note: I live in Michigan. I am sure these things vary by state.

  1. your mom got a tkt cause of your neglect. so pay her fine and accept responsibility.

  2. Next time you neglect your automotive responsibilities, your mom should take you in the back room and slap the cowboy S**t out of you. Now pay the dadburn ticket.......

  3. I routinely stop cars for no reason beyond an expired license plate or reregistration.

  4. Some cops are just more observant than others.

  5. It really depends.

I try to pull folks over for driving with expired tags whenever I see them.

It will depend on the individual officer.. what his observation skills are, what what his priorities are at that point in time.

Mostly its luck, I often see cars that I want/can pull over but its when I'm on my way to a call...

  6. It is just like fishing. You don't catch them all when you go fishing. Cops focus on different violations during the year and will stop you sooner or later for this type of violation.

  7. Unless the driver was doing something to attract the trooper's attention, they don't normally notice those things.
