Well she is staying with us till she gets her own place and I have no idea why in the heck she would do this but she put my good thick almost new oven mits in a pan of oil and they sat over night until I discovered them. I tried to wash them and they are still oily. What can I do to get the greasy oily feeling out of them. They still feel so oily. And she keeps using my decorative pot holders from the wall and its pissing me off.. what can I do to clean these things???

  1. I would try soaking them in some water with dawn in it.  Dawn seems to be really good at getting out grease so it might work on oil.

    Good luck.

  2. I think that because oven mits have batting inside, the oil may be absorbed into it and will need to be absorbed or sucked out to fully remove it.  You can do it by filling them up and covering them with either baking soda, salt, talc, kitty litter, or borax for a couple of days until you see their consistency change.  Then I would use a grease releasing dish soap inside and all over the outside of them and try laundering again.  MIL hint:  Anything you don't want her to use, put away.  Mine thought anything that was within arms reach was usable even for some other purpose than intended.  My oven mits were used to open a radiator cap! LOL  They then took up permanent residency in the garage.

  3. I know exactly what you mean , My mother in law uses my decorative pot holders also when she comes to visit and i cant stand it and i have told her and i have even taken them down and hid them from her but she still finds them i think she just does it for spite , but what you can do it soak the oven mits in hot water with baking soda and vinegar for about 5 hours  , and then rinse and if you have to repeat  , Seriously If it were me and she did my oven mits that way i would tell her and make her buy me some more .... I made my mother in law finally leave my decorative ones alone when i fussed her out and told her she needed to respect my things and stop using stuff that wasn't supposed to be touched ,   tell your hubby to talk to her if she continues to use your stuff  and Good Luck to you and maybe she will get her own place soon !!
