  1. www1.chapman.edu/univcoll/faculty/piper/...

    www.curriculum.cc.ca.us/Curriculum/Res... - 14k -

    www.esu3.org/curriculum/currwebsites.h...

If you want go to the library

  2. ask your local school district, they could help you with that

  3. How is it that she's homeschooling without already having this information? Did she just keep him out of school informally? The best bet is to get everything "legal." There are homeschooling websites and groups to help, and the local school district needs to know your brother's status.

Don't mean to be rude, but if she homeschooled you, it's worrisome that you write "their" for "there." And if you did go to school, then it makes perfect sense that she's homeschooling your brother!

Seriously, you can learn at any age, and it's nice of you to try to help your brother. Hope you're looking at the big picture in all this. Homeschooling is good if the local school stinks, a child has special needs or is bullied, or needs more creative/advanced studies and you can't afford private school. It's a bad idea if you are afraid that your child will be exposed to ideas that are different (political or religious), since your beliefs should be strong enough to stand up to contradiction. (Unfortunately, there's a small group of control freaks who homeschool their children because they want all the influence, all the time. Or don't want the kids to let others know what's going on at home. In some cases, socially isolating a child from the world can border on abuse.)

Your query worries me a bit.

  4. Why are you asking and not her?  The agency she is with should supply all of that information.

  5. This website lists everything that should be taught for each grade.

    www.worldbook.com  (or org)

And, go to your state dept of education website and search for 'standards'

this is a listing of what all public schools in your state have to teach in each subject for each grade.

It is a very detailed list.

  6. connectionsacademy.com

  7. no

  8. try pre-algebra - it prepares children REALLY well

    for middle school curriculum

  9. Bite Size!!!!!

  10. There is a great book available at any bookstore, including http://amazon.com and http://bn.com, titled "What Every 5th Grader Should Know."  This book will tell your mom everything she needs to know.

There are also great curriculum resources listed on http://a2zhomeschool.com.  You or your mom can just type in "5th grade" in the search box on that website, and I'm sure you will come up with a lot of information.

Also the Florida Department of Education or your local school district probably has a list of everything 5th graders are expected to know by the end of the school year.  It's usually referred to as a "scope and sequence" list, or something to that effect.  You can also find a great scope and sequence lists for all grades at http://BJUpress.com under the "Distance Learning" tab, or by searching "homeschool" in the search box on that site.

    Good luck!

  11. Sigh.  Sorry about all the unhelpful answers you've received.  Unfortunately, people who know absolutely nothing about homeschooling like to hang out on the homeschool forum.

Here's a .pdf document that gives all of the standards and learning objectives for 5th grade in Florida.  http://etc.usf.edu/flstandards/la/new-pd...  I found it on the Board of Ed site http://www.fldoe.org/, I clicked "Curriculum Support" in the Site Index box, the first one in the upper right hand corner.

    Hope that helps!

  12. As far as the State Standards, there is a book that you or she can get at the bookstore in the children's section called 'What your ?? Grader Needs to Know'--this book goes by grade level and gives advice, resources, learning ideas, etc.

You can also just type 'Florida Sunshine State Standards' in your google bar and hit enter.

Per the final test, I have no clue what you are talking about because in Florida homeschoolers can opt out of any tests (Dibel, FCAT) UNLESS they are in the Virtual School or an Umbrella School in which case you are SOL (sorry out of luck).

***Umbrella School**** Privately run origanization that charges the parent a fee. That fee covers the cost of Books, Materials, Tests, Supplies, Grading, Record Keeping.

Not all Umbrella Schools are the same or do all the above. Some charge a small fee, while others charge you thru the nose and give you little in return.

*****Virtual School****** Usually run by the State or other Accredited Educational Institution.

    State Run---normally FREE

    Other----- may charge fees

I homeschool my 3rd grade daughter in Fl. As long as I homeschool her thru High School she doesn't have to take any Standardized Tests UNTIL High School when she will have to take her SATs.

Useing the Sunshine Standards as a guide only, I create her curriculum based on her interests and her learning style. As long as she shows progress every year when it comes time for her evaluation and portfolio review, I don't have to worry about doing it anyone else's way or paying others for curriculum and materials  that I can get  cheaper or FREE or better yet make myself.

Not all curriculums work for all children, and spending an outlandish amount of money on a curriculum that may or may not work is pointless and frustrating not to mention finacially draining.

There is a company called iLearnExpress.com that has interactive workbooks on CD covering Math, Science, Language Arts and Reading (this one covers 3rd,4th &5th Grade) and I found the CD's at the Dollar Tree. My daughter loves them and they download onto the computer.

    Good Luck.
