Question:

My mother is lying to everyone about my father's illness?

My father got sick about a year and a half ago. He's since lost about 75 pounds and can't walk, feed himself, or go to the bathroom. Mom told everyone he has psorosis of the liver, even went into this big thing about him getting on the transplant list. BTW, dad was never a drinker. Then he got put in ICU, when I went to see him the nurse told me that the Hep B meds weren't responding. When I asked my mom about the Hep B, she denied it, but she reported the nurse to the chief of med and the nurse was fired for violating the HEPA act. Dad won't say anything, and mom's lying about everything. Then this week, she got put in the hospital, she said for kidney stones, but she was in the hospital for a week, so I don't think it was kidney stones. I just can't get the truth out of her, and I feel like she putting a lot of ppl in our family at risk by not being forthcoming about what they have. A lot of ppl help her with dad and Hep B is contagious. I'm really more concerned with what else they might have.

  1. Hepatitis B virus infects the liver of hominoidae, including humans, and causes an inflammation called hepatitis. It is a DNA virus and one of many unrelated viruses that cause viral hepatitis. The disease, originally known as "serum hepatitis",[1] has caused epidemics in parts of Asia and Africa. Hepatitis B is endemic in China and various other parts of Asia.[2] The proportion of the world's population currently infected with the virus is estimated at 3 to 6%, but up to a third have been exposed. Symptoms of the acute illness caused by the virus include liver inflammation, vomiting, jaundice, and rarely, death. Chronic hepatitis B may eventually cause liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, a fatal disease with very poor response to current chemotherapy.[3] The infection is preventable by vaccination.[4]

    Symptoms

    Less than half of those with short-term (acute) hepatitis B infections have symptoms. Symptoms include:

        * Jaundice (the skin and whites of the eyes appear yellow). Although jaundice is the defining sign of hepatitis B, it does not occur in most cases. Jaundice usually appears after other symptoms have started to go away.

        * Extreme tiredness (fatigue).

        * Mild fever.

        * Headache.

        * Loss of appetite.

        * Nausea.

        * Vomiting.

        * Constant discomfort on the right side of the abdomen under the rib cage, where the liver is located. In most people, the discomfort is made worse when their bodies are jarred or if they overwork themselves.

        * Diarrhea or constipation.

        * Muscle aches.

        * Joint pain.

        * Skin rash.

    Most people with chronic HBV have no symptoms.

    You may get infected with HBV without knowing it. You may not find out that you have an HBV infection until you have a routine blood test or donate blood. Finding out a family member or someone you live with is infected also may cause you to be tested. Some people never know they have hepatitis B until a health professional finds that they have cirrhosis or liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma). But this is uncommon.

    Your mother may be confused since Hep B affects the liver function. If he is in ICU he has Cirrhosis of the Liver.

    Ask the physician in charge or a nurse to sit down and talk with both of you about his condition and be open to ask questions.

    Good luck.

  2.   From what you have said, it doesn't necessarily mean that your mother has been lying to you.  It does sound like she isn't 6telling you everything and may be doing that thinking she is protecting you from all of the worries and grief.  She very well could have been hospitalized for a week with kidney stones.  Your father did not have to be a drinker to be diagnosed with psorosis of the liver, and he wouldn't be considered for a transplant if he was a drinker.  I think you should pick the right time and talk to your mother.  Tell her that you not knowing what is going on is more scary to you than knowing and figuring out the best way to deal with the situation.  If she refuses to talk to you up front than maybe you should talk to a close relative and ask them to explain your father's illness to you so you will better understand.  Don't accuse your mother of lying, your Dad is obviously very sick and you know that for fact.  I think she is just trying to protect you.  I am sorry to hear about your Father's illness.  It must be very tough on you.  Try to be strong and supportive of both your parents.  It will make you feel better in the long run. :)

  3. I don't really know all the facts about Hep B but I don't think this is that...  Maybe your mom is lying 'cause she doesn't want to admit they are really sick.... There are a lot of reasons she could be lying for. Why does anyone lie?  Confront her and ask her what is really going on. Tell her you did some research and you want the truth.

  4. hmmmmm.... i can perfectly understand waht is going on right now oinly because i share a somewhat same experience about my mom 'lying' or 'leaving parts out'. she just doesn't want you to be worried. that is a mom's job. but what you might want to do is confront her and say, "Mom, I want you to tell me what is really going on. Please tell me the truth. He's my Dad." that might help with your situtation. you dont have to say those excact words but say something like that. im really really sorry about your mom and dad. i hope they get better!

  5. maybe she is ashamed of the real illness she probably doesnt want you to worry there are lots of reasons the best to do is wait until she decides to tell you but if you see she is not willing then confront her and ask her what the real problem is and why she didnt want you guys to know. I hope your dad gets well soon
