My elderly mother is experiencing the loss of money from her wallet. My brother who has a history of drugs lives with her. We cannot prove he is taking the money..if he is. Is there a system she can put in place to safeguard the money. she has a terrible memory problem but is certain the money keeps 'disappearing.' We are trying to get him out.

  1. Have her go cash free.  Keep her money in the bank and access it with a debit card only as needed.  If someone else could hold the debit card, that would be helpful.  Also, she would need to hide her checks or give them to another family member.

If the money isn't in the house, it won't disappear.  However, other stuff might start vanishing.  Until you can get him out, take her valuables, especially the small stuff like jewelry.

  2. Best to throw the bum out.

  3. You don't TRY to get him out, you simply DO IT.
