My mothersmaiden name is misspelled in passport would that be a problem if I apply visitor visa for my mother?

Misspelled in my Indian passport. I am permanent resident in Canada

  1. You most probably will face some problems when applying for your mother's visa. You should bring along other documents (such as a birth certificate and drivers license) to prove that she is who she says she is. The worst case scenario is they may deny your mother a visa based on these grounds. If that happens she will have to apply for a new passport. When she applies for a new passport she will have to send back her old passport to be canceled and this may cause some trouble.


  2. Name mismatches can be a big deal in these times of uncertainty.  The country that issued the passport must rectify it before you proceed to do any further documents that will be missmatched.  In your question, you  do not specify which country the passport was issued in, nor visa for what country you are intending to get, however, it is better to get the corrected names (in some cases, all they do is do a signed ammendment on one of the pages, but this varies from country to country).
