My male mouse has been going around in circles for the past 5 hours and he just won't stop. I held him to see if I can make him stop, but that didn't work. He looks fine and hasn't been out of his cage in 48 hrs. Please help me!

  1. ok well I'm not really sure why hes running around but u need to make him stop like now 5 hours he could live because rodents cant run like dat there heart beats really fast dat they like have a heart attack or sumthin I'm not sure exactly wat but if he doesn't stop when he finally does h**l be like to tired n die i don't really understand wat happens i do kno dat he might be dead n da future if he doesn't stop runnin it happened to my pet n my friends just tryin to warn u

  2. like said above, he probably has an inter ear problem that can lead to a loss of balance. symptoms are: tilted head and stuff single direction when walking or running, etc. try calling a vet.

  3. This is a fairly common problem with mice.  Mice who have this problem are called "waltzing mice".  It can be caused by either an inner ear infection (which requires a trip to the vet), or by a genetic problem.  Years ago people actually tried to breed this trait and would label them as "waltzing" or "dancing" mice.  Some "breeders" still do this, though many breeders now realize that this is NOT a desirable trait.

My first suggestion is to take your mouse to the vet.  The "good" news is that, while this "spinning" is concerning and stressful to you, it's not going to give your mouse a heart attack or kill it.  Until you can take your pet to a vet, try to keep him in a "stress free" environment.  This will cut down the constant spinning.  If you are able, try to move the cage into an area with little to no traffic and low noise.

Most mice will respond to antibiotics fairly quickly, but make sure you finish all the medication your vet gives you.

    Good luck!!

  4. either a tooth root or ear infection. He needs to see a vet and get some antibiotics to clear it up or it may get worst.
