ok well i've been keeping mice for ages and last saturday i bought two more mice-one boy and one girl for breeding and they have been kept in the same cages and have been really friendly and not biting or attacking eachother at all. they have been completely healthy and very active they are always on their wheel and running and jumping in their cage. this afternoon the female had diahoerria and then a few hours later she was in her bed and pretty much dead-shes not quite dead yet but she can't move and is floppy but i can see her breathing.

what has happened?? she has been near my other 3 mice is there a chance they can get sick as well??

could it be from the pet shop where she is from and should i take her back and complain/is it worth getting another mouse from that pet shop??

  1. Well in a way i would bring it back but you shouldn't because that means that she could have the case of wet tail which is very bad diarrhea so you can try to nurse her back to health but I'm not very sure that she will get better and yes keep the other ones out because they could get sick from the diarrhea because of what is in it and they could eat it and play in it which is very nasty dirty and they could get sick or die so clean out your cage asap until next time im Justine H saying good bye!

  2. I can't say I know what is wrong exactly, but I've been through a total of eight mice in my life and they have always been with either one or two other mice at the same time. I always bought these mice from PETCO. But everytime I would have them together, they always seemed to die faster than if they were alone. I don't know why, but either they died from something internal, that I didn't know what it was, or another mouse would bully its fellow mouse to death, at least that's what it seeemed like.

  3. Sounds like she has some kind of illness. If the male isn't sick then it's probably not from the pet store and I wouldn't worry about getting another mouse of them. Having diarrhea sounds like it was a digestive problem, the food you gave her may not be the same as what she's used to from the pet shop and her system just couldn't cope with it. Otherwise it just could be food poisoning or an upset stomach like you get sometimes. Because mice are so small their immune systems aren't very strong and if they get sick it weakens them incredibly easily and fast, being limp and not moving could just be that all of her energy is put into fighting whatever bug is in her system. She may recover or she may not. It's difficult to tell with mice, hope she's alright and good luck with your breeding. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
