My mp3 just stays at the 'starting' page

ok so i bought this Delstar mp3 and it was working fine for a while and then one day it just stoped. the CD that it came with says that its for windows 98. i have windows xp. anyways when i plug it in the removable disk sign doesnt even come up. i dont know what to do. please help.
