  1. Their house, their rules. A dog is not a toy and "ALL my friends have 1" is not reason enough to get one.

  2. Erin, I don't know how old you are but dogs are a lot of responsibility. How will you pay for dog food, taking it to the vet to get routine check ups and shots and when they are sick? You do realize with a pet, you can't vacation anywhere without making arrangements for a pet sitter and a lot of times unless it's a friend, they charge a lot. I hope you aren't too much of a girly girl because you will have to pick up after it if it has an accident in the house and sometimes even if you walk the dog in certain parts (i.e. neighborhoods require people to pick up their dog's p**p) They also need their nails trimmed and an occasional bath.

Do your friends have one, or do your friends' families have one? There's a difference. In one, only they are responsible for the dog in the other the whole family helps out in caring for the animal.  It's easier as a family thing but not easy as a single person thing. I know I couldn't take care of my beagle, Heidi, without my parents help and she's my brother's dog but he's in Iraq. I know he won't always take her out, so I know and agree to help him with her when I give her to him again.

Also, I just had a dog pass away, and her bills from the vet doing all the tests to get some idea of what's wrong with her (no joke) cost around 500-600 dollars. That's sometimes just one visit to the vet. Also, when the animal passes, can you handle the loss? It's unbearable pain.

  3. sorry if this wasn't the answer you were waiting for...

"ALL your friends have 1" and "there are so many cute puppies out there waiting for you" sound like the real reasons you want to get a dog...

How old are you? Maybe your parents think your too young to have one and they think they'll end up cleaning up after the dog's mess... Maybe they're thinking about their/your house >> doggy smell

Maybe you're a teenager that some years from now will move out to go to college and leave your dog with your parents... there can be loads of reasons....

Also, if you think I'm wrong, try picking a breed that fits your life style, not just a "cute puppy"...

  4. you cant blame em, youl probly kill it

  5. Your parents will have their reasons for not letting you have a dog. You should try doing some dog walking or pet sitting so you can spend time with other pets and also prove to your parents that you are capable of caring for animals.

Dont worry, its not the end of the world, cheers, Jane

  6. Okay raising a dog is INCREDIBLY hard. Trust me. I've had my red nose pit since it came out of her mom's belly. And believe me. IT WAS HARD. it's almost as hard as raising a child. I thought it was gonan be a peace of cake. But NO all the walking, the "teach it to poo and pee outside", the medical expenses. Your parents have a really good reason why not to let you have one. My rednose pit has a couple gees on her. With all the money i've spent on her I might as well have boughten myself another car. If you want one THAT bad. Prove to them that u are responsible, and are willing to care for it. Though I highly doubt it. (sorry brutally honest is kicking in) Dogs are incredibly hard to raise good luck.. You will need it.

  7. x2 on what Pinar said. "puppies" aren't accessories.

Im guessing your parents based their answer on the fact they know you and think you aren't ready. Puppies turn into dogs, sometimes unruly little punks, so they really need someone who is already responsible. Not someone who the puppy is going to teach responsibility to.

Sorry- I know thats not the answer you wanted.

  8. I know that feeling, but like they said above, "ALL my friends have 1" is not an excuse! Try to figure out why they won't let you! My sister used to really want a puppy but my mom wouldn't let her, but one day, my mom told me she was allergic to the dog fur... Maybe that is the reason, or if not, try babysitting for one, ask your mom when one of your friends that have a dog go out on vacation if you can babysit it for a while at your house. That is what we did and it softened my moms heart for dogs.

  9. I already have a dog, however up until about two months ago we used to have two, recently a friend has told us that her cocker spaniel is having puppies this was the breed of dog we lost. I really want a new puppy and I have got ways of persuading my parents:

    1. If you have enough money ask if you buy 1 can you have 1

    2. Buy it for a present for your mum and dad (I'm planning on a christmas pressie)

    3. Tell them that you will walk it and take it to training

    4. Instead of getting a puppy you could always rehome a dog, there are many in rescue centres that need loving caring homes. You don't have to go through the peeing and pooing inside stage then.

You do need to think though is a puppy or dog really pratical for your situation? Things you need to think about are:

    1. Is there somebody home all day to look after it and care for its needs?

    2. Do you have the time to look after it train it and take it for walks?

    3. Ask your parents the reason you cant have a puppy prehaps its because someone is allergic, you will probably find there's a valid reason.

I wish you the best of luck in getting a puppy, but remember they don't stay puppies forever. Talk to your parents and reason with them I've got a friend who talked to her parents and after 5 years of whining to get a dog she got 1. Everything takes time don't expect to get what you want when you want it.

  10. prove how responsible.

im getting a job soon, so my dad is letting me get a puppy.

    other wise tough luck.

  11. maybe they know that you  want a puppy  just becos ALL of your friends have 1...having a pet is more than that u know.

  12. Why aren't they letting you, is it because your parent's can't afford to take care of one, or they just don't trust you? 'Cause if they can't afford I'd say stop being spoiled and jealous of your friends. If they don't trust you then wait a while; they'll find you more mature soon enough.

  13. How old are you?

If your parents don't love dogs, it will be very hard for the dog also dear!

Also ask yourself, can you take a dog's life long responsibility? It's not a toy. And because you can get a puppy easily, or all your friends have dogs doesn't give you any reason to get a puppy!

  14. prove to them you are responsible, and show them u dont want a dog b/c all ur friends have one!!!
