  1. Probably she is just worried about the stories that you hear about American appliances (especially hair appliances for some reason) being fried when plugged into a European socket without a power adapter. (as Europe and the US work on a different voltage system)

Sure you can sneak it in the bag, but she would probably check (if it was anything like my mum!) and you would prob. feel a touch of the guilts if you did

So first of all ask her why not?  If it is because of this then go together to the electrical store to ask and get a good power adapter.  If she is still in doubt then (check with her first) and simply buy one in Europe.  You can get a cheap one (e.g. here in the Netherlands http://www.kijkshop.nl/producten/244-878... for €9.99 which is $15.52, and this will work in Europe without the risk of needing a power converter.  The only thing you have to note is that you may still need a adapter plug (e.g. in the UK it is three pins and most of the rest of Europe it is 2 pins), but this is risk free.

So ask her for the reasons first, show her you have thought about it, and go from there

    Good luck :0)

  2. And why in the world wouldnt your mother let u take your staightener?!?!? Thats crazy!!!  Take it!

  3. Insist that you want to take it, and tell her you will be responsible with it..

Or you could buy one when you get to wherever you're going..

If not, try some scrunching hair product [Aussie is the best] and try the wavy/curly look next week :]

  4. Walk around with curly hair for a while.

    You might even like it.

I agree with your mum, taking a straightener is silly.

It weights, (and everybody already has too much luggage,) it takes time to use, which is also something you do not want when traveling and if you travel from the USA to Europe it will just burn, not work as it is supposed to do.

The converter to make it work can cost twice as much as the thing itself.
