Okay, so I am 12 and do not know ANY Gaelic...I am kind of hoping that someone who either really knows what they are talking about with baby names, or someone that knows Gaelic can help me. I have been researching the origin of my name and have come up with two results. Some websites say it means "Slender" and other websites say it means "Party" or "Celebration". Another woman I know, named Kayleigh, says it means "Slender" so I'm a bit confused.

All I know (or at least I HOPE) is that ALL the websites agree it is Gaelic.

  1. i have a fat sister named kaylee! but she does like to party!!

  2. It means Slender. Here's the website...

  3. it means quit trying to define yourself by your looking into the definition of ur name

  4. Kayleigh is a form of the Irish word "Ceilí" Which in Gaelic means a party or celebration.

Ceilís aren't held much in Ireland very much anymore, sometimes in schools. For example at my school they make all the girls stand at one side and boys at the other then they drag you out to dance with some person you've never spoken to in your life!

    Yes, it's kind of embarrassing!

So anyway I hoped that helped! =]

  5. It means party.

In Irish its splet céilí an din Scots gaelic ceilidh.

Both ceilí and ceilidh are a type of dance/ music party neither means slender.

Although céilí and cèilidh are spelt differently they are both pronounced kay-lee.

It was never a name in Ireland, its just a word.

It got anglicised and was used as a name in America.

Kaleigh is just one anglicisation (others being kayley, caylee or whatever people make up really).

  6. i am not sure but i love your name.  i have been wondering what my name means it is very unusual.

  7. hey,

emmm....well in irish its spelled Ceilí for a dance, party or celebration but your name  Kayleigh could probaly mean the same. that happens alot in gaeilic. words are spelled different but generelly mean the same thing. or maby its a irish word that got americanised and turned in2 a name r something because personaly i've never heard of kayleigh as a name. i've heard of kayla but not kayleigh but it is a nice name :)

    hope i helped =]
