She's very capable of alot of things being a two year old. I love her a lot and shes my whole world. I'm a cna (certified nursing assistant) and in a job interview, I told the interviewer I babysat for my sisters and one of the babies had Down Syndrome. I got the job and the interviewer was sentimental towards me and acted as if I deserved the job for watching a Down syndrome child. Do you think I exploited my neice for her condition? I cant help but feel guilty and thats why I got the job. I'm confused.

  1. Dont be silly. You provided the interviewer with your experiance. You also showed your interviewer that you have compassion and patiance and an understanding of what care means. what you did was not exploiting her. Congratulations on your new job.

  2. NO! you did not exploit your neice....you simply told the interviewer you experiences. if you got the job because of those experiences...great...it shows that you are a compassionate person with a great deal of patience and are willing to look past a persons "disability" to the person they truely are ....I would sure want someone like you taking care of my grandmother who is in a nursing home, rather than someone who does it just because it is their job and will whine and neglect her and not really "see" her for the wonderful lady she is....isn't it amazing how one little girl can change your world for the better? don't feel guilty, be proud!

  3. No, if it had nothing to do with the job and you were saying it to get sympathy it would be different, but you were giving an example of handling people with different capabilities, which pertains to your job.

  4. You got the job because you showed compassion.  That is a very, very, very, very, very, very, big behavior skill for a nurse.

  5. Oh no not at all. They probably just made that seem like a big thing because it shows you are a caring person. They would have given it to you anyways because your certified and have a bit of experience.

So no you definitely did not exploit her for her condition, it was just something you stated and they followed up on it and commended you for it. You must be a really nice, kind person to even think that you exploited her + you babysat them in the first place. Good luck on your job

  6. Don't be silly. You got the job because of your qualifications. The fact that you mentioned your niece with Down's syndrome only  indicated to the interviewer that you are a compassionate person, and this is something that cannot be found on a resume. And compassion is VERY important in your job. So stop worrying, and go to work!

  7. No.  You have specified experience.  THAT ISN'T EXPLOITATION.

  8. no you didn't......but people who can care for such children have a lot of patience and forbearance ...and those are desirable qualities in your profession

  9. No, I don't think you intentionally used your niece to get a job. I think that you just wanted the interviewer to know what types of experience you have had. That not all of the people that you have cared for were what many would consider "normal." I think that while the interviewer may have had more sympathy for you, she also recognized a valuable employee and that is why you got the job.
