tell the geezer to get a hobby and you should work on your jumper so some of those shots stay in your yard.  other than that, just apologize if he gets mad.  go over one day when you're not playing and just let him know that you sense his dissatisfaction in the fact that you have to come over and apologize and advise him that it's not on purpose.  if he's still trippin, tell him you have his viagra in an undisclosed location and will not return it until you make it to the NBA.  problem solved kiddo.

There's probably nothing you can say.  Do something or put something up to prevent the ball from going into his yard any more.  As much as you might think he's being a "prick", the fact is that it's HIS property, and it's his right not to want you on it for whatever reason.    

I have a particularly annoying neighbor who has zero respect for my property (and with about 8 kids between ages 2 and 16 who they never watch or tell "no" to, EVER, that gets old QUICK!).  It gets extremely annoying constantly seeing a disrespectful neighbor use/wreck your yard (without your permission and after telling them not to), acting like they can do whatever they want to your property, especially when you try to take the time and effort to keep your yard/house in good shape otherwise.  

Some day, when you're a homeowner and you put significant time, effort, and money into keeping your yard and house looking good, it might make more sense to you why your neighbor gets annoyed by someone being in his yard when he doesn't want them there.  Until then, do something to keep the ball out of his yard in the future.
