  1. Do not broadcast your SSID.

    Use WPA Encryption.

    * Remember, DO NOT use WEP encryption - it's weak and easily hacked.

  2. set wpa or wep on your wireless router.

  3. Go into the router settings and set up WEP or WPA encryption with a strong (not easily guessable) password.

Ideally, don't use WEP at all unless you have wireless devices that don't work with WPA (such as Nintendo DS).

WEP may be a barrier to casual surfers, but it won't stop a determined wireless thief, as the encryption is weak and is easily broken (within 3 minutes, using readily available tools, according to the FBI).

  4. You can put a password on your connection that will force your neighbor to either enter the password or prevent them from using it.

  5. First you will need to access your router.  This is done by typing your routers IP into your browser's address bar.  If you do not know your routers address, open up the command prompt and type "ipconfic/all" without the quotes and hit enter.  The address for your router should be listed as the DHCP server.

After you have the router, go to the security section and set up WPA encryption.  Do not use WEP, it is weak and easily hacked.  Write the encryption KEY down so you don't loose it, you will need to install this key into any computer that accesses your router via WIFI.  IE, when you attempt to sign on to your router you will be asked for the KEY, just type it in.  You will only need to do this one time for each computer that accesses the router via WIFI.  Any hard wired connection will not require the KEY.

All of this is probably well covered in your routers manual.  If you do not have the manual you can download a copy from your router manufacturer's web site.

  6. put a password on your router...

    i had the same problem

  7. let your router identified just for your machine, and also use a password, if he's not proffesional wireless geek, he could not pass these.

  8. go to your routers setup page..usually its one of the following ip addressed u put into ur browser: 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, 192.168.2.1, 192.168.1.1

then go to security and password protect your signal using wep incription.
