My neighbor threatened to call animal control on me?

My neighbor threatened to call animal control on me because I was hitting the concrete with a rolled up newspaper (our dog had torn up our garden hose) and of course I yelled at him because I didn't want to hit him! But I guess from the view of my neighbor it looked like I was severely beating up my dog!

I just want to know was I wrong for hitting the concrete?

I like to think that I'm an unofficial member of PETA, I love my pets (I have 2 dogs and a cat), I'm a vegetarian... But sometimes training can be a little rough for big dogs!

No, it wasn't wrong of you to hit the concrete, but keep in mind that if you keep doing it, people will keep getting the wrong idea.  Also, I'm not sure exactly how effective that training will be for the dog.

If your neighbor did end up calling Animal Control, the officers would likely just check out the dog on site, and assuming they don't see any injuries on him, they'll just thank you for your time and be on their way.  If you weren't actually hitting your dog, don't worry about it.

If you need help training your dog, you could either enlist the help of a professional and/or post a question in the Dog section of Yahoo Answers (they're very helpful!)

It's not very effective - the dog has no way to relate to the fact that you're beating the ground because he did something.

It's not illegal, though.

A better way of training is to grab the dog on either side of its head and look into its eyes.  This makes them very uncomfortable.

i don't think it's a very effective way of training your dog but it's certainly not illegal to beat your concrete with a newspaper.  if you have nothing to worry about, i'd  tell your nosy neighbor to go ahead and call animal control.  when they get there, show them the torn up hose and explain you were hitting the concrete next to him.  if there's no evidence of neglect or abuse, they can't do anything to you.  

i'd be sure to tell your nosy neighbor to mind their own business.
